Scale, specialisation and price — without the slogans
Istanbul concentrates many plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery practices, private hospitals and package-style international patient desks. That density creates competition on price and packaging. It does not automatically create safety. Lower quotes than Western Europe or North America are common in marketing — but the useful question is what the quote includes and who operates where.
- High procedure volume in popular categories (especially rhinoplasty and body contouring)
- Hospital infrastructure used by private surgeons alongside clinic consultations
- Package language (hotel nights, transfers, translator) that can hide or reveal real medical costs
Combine sightseeing with major surgery only if your surgeon agrees the itinerary will not interfere with swelling control, wound care and emergency access. Walking the Old City the day after a tummy tuck is not a recovery plan.
Safety first
How to verify a surgeon and facility
Refuse “best surgeon in Istanbul” rankings — including older versions of this page. Use verifiable credentials instead.
- Specialty: Confirm Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery training. The Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (TPRECD) publishes a public member directory at plastikcerrahi.org.tr — search the surgeon’s legal name.
- Hospital: Get the operating hospital or licensed facility name in writing. A consultation office is not the same as the theatre.
- Health-tourism claims: If a provider advertises international health-tourism authorisation, ask for the Ministry of Health document and check it is current.
- Written quote: Surgeon fee, anaesthesia, facility nights, garments, medications, companion hotel, revision policy, what happens if you need an unplanned overnight stay.
- Aftercare: Who sees you if you fly home at day 7 and a complication appears at day 14?
Accreditation logos (including JCI) are facility claims — verify on the hospital’s own channels, not only on an agency landing page.

Blepharoplasty
Eyelid surgery addresses excess skin, fat pads or hooding that change the eye aperture. Ask whether upper lids, lower lids or both are planned, how dry-eye risk is assessed, and what scarring pattern to expect. Healing of the periocular area is visible in public earlier than many patients expect — schedule video calls and travel photos accordingly.
Neck lift
Neck contouring may involve skin, fat and platysma muscle work, sometimes combined with lower-face procedures. Ask what will change the jawline versus the neck band, where scars sit, and how long compression or posture limits apply. Marketing photos rarely show the first two weeks.

Liposuction
Liposuction removes localised fat deposits; it is not a weight-loss programme. Ask which areas are treated, estimated volume limits, whether anaesthesia is local with sedation or general, and what garment schedule is required. Bruising and contour irregularity risks should be explained before you compare package prices.
VASER liposuction
VASER uses ultrasound energy to assist fat emulsification before aspiration. Clinics often market it as more “precise” or “skin-tightening.” Treat those claims as device talking points until your surgeon explains what it changes for your tissue quality, and what complications remain shared with conventional liposuction.
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
Abdominoplasty removes excess abdominal skin and may repair separated muscle (diastasis) after pregnancy or weight change. It is a larger recovery than liposuction alone. Ask about drain use, walking schedule, when you may fly, and whether a combined mommy-makeover quote is bundling procedures that should be staged for safety.
Breast lift (mastopexy)
A lift reshapes and raises breast tissue and nipple position; implants are a separate decision. Ask which scar pattern is proposed, whether volume will look smaller after lift alone, and how breastfeeding or future pregnancy may affect longevity of the result.
