Istanbul · Beşiktaş · Ortaköy · Bosphorus

Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul is Kempinski’s palace-and-hotel stay on Çırağan Caddesi 32, on the European shore of the Bosphorus between Beşiktaş and Ortaköy — a restored imperial waterfront, not a Historic Peninsula address and not a second Çırağan tower elsewhere in the city.

Kempinski publishes the property as the only Ottoman imperial palace and hotel on the Bosphorus. Switchboard +90 212 326 4646. Reservations: reservationoffice.ciraganpalace@kempinski.com. Cab Istanbul is an independent chauffeur and transfer company. It does not operate the hotel, does not sit on the palace concierge desk, and has no verified partnership or guest discount with Kempinski.

Palace

History of Çırağan Palace

The name Çırağan — “full of light” — is older than the stone façade guests photograph. Kempinski and Ottoman sources place royal gardens and earlier wooden palaces on this shore from the Tulip Period onward. The standing masonry palace is a nineteenth-century building: Sultan Abdülaziz commissioned the Balyan family; construction ran 1863–1871. The old line that the hotel “dates back to the 17th century” as a single stone palace is too simple.

A fire in 1910 gutted the interior. Outer walls, columns and much of the historic hammam survived. After decades of other uses — including Beşiktaş football on the old garden pitch — restoration plus a new hotel wing opened as Çırağan Palace Kempinski on 15 January 1991. Guests stay in two related buildings: the historic palace and the modern hotel block set back so the waterfront elevation remains the palace.

Stay

Palace Wing and Hotel Wing

The current Kempinski count is 317 rooms and suites, not the older 310 / 279 / 20 split. The hotel building holds 285 redesigned rooms and 21 suites — many with Bosphorus or Yıldız Park outlooks and private balconies. The historic palace holds 11 palace suites, including the Sultan Suite. Ten palace suites are maisonette duplexes with sash windows and high ceilings. Views are water, courtyard or park — not every pillow faces the strait.

Butler service is published for palace suites and selected top hotel suites. Ask what your category includes. The hotel redesign of public rooms and hotel keys is credited on the press kit to Ottoman-art consultant Serdar Gülgün and Toner Architects.

Keys

Rooms and suites

Named hotel rooms on the live Kempinski card include a Grand Deluxe Bosphorus at 50 m², a Deluxe Bosphorus at 66 m², a Çırağan Bosphorus room at 34 m² (angled water view), a garden-facing Yıldız room at 32 m² and a Lilyum Garden at 55 m². Suites in the hotel building add living space; palace suites are a different product — historic volumes, not a larger hotel room. Confirm Bosphorus versus garden when you book. Square metres are hotel-published approximations.

Sultan Suite

The Sultan Suite is on the second floor of the historic palace. The live room card lists 458 m², panoramic Bosphorus sash windows, two bedrooms, a dining room and a living room, and a 24-hour butler. Maximum occupancy on that card is four. Forbes listed it among the world’s most luxurious hotel suites in 2016 — a dated honour on the hotel’s own page, not a current ranking. This page does not lock a 12-seat dining table or a “largest in Europe” claim.

Water

Bosphorus views

The palace faces Asia across the strait. Selected hotel rooms look at the water, the bridges or the Historic Peninsula; others look at the garden and Yıldız. Palace suites vary by courtyard, park or Bosphorus. Ask for the outlook. The gardens and palm court sit between the hotel block and the water — a resort feel inside a European-side city plot.

Morning

Breakfast and brunch

Laledan is no longer on the official dining list. Current gastronomy copy publishes an in-house breakfast at Rüya Istanbul for staying guests. The hotel building’s Mediterranean restaurant Akdeniz still appears on hotel dining cards as an all-day room. Confirm which room is serving the morning you arrive.

Breakfast is no longer published at Laledan — ask whether Rüya or Akdeniz is serving that morning.

The palace’s Sunday brunch tradition is back on the official card at Rüya (Kempinski press, April 2026). Hours on that card have been 12:30–16:00; they move. This page does not publish package prices.

Brunch at Çırağan Palace Kempinski
Sunday brunch is published at Rüya Istanbul, not at the retired Laledan name.

Table

Tuğra Restaurant

Tuğra is the palace dining room: Ottoman and Turkish plates researched from palace archives, high ceilings, Bosphorus windows and a terrace. The live hotel card lists dinner service, a Smart Chic dress note, Michelin Guide recommendation and Gault&Millau recognition. It is a dinner destination, not the breakfast room. Reservations are expected. Older Business Insider or Architectural Digest lists are not treated here as current rankings.

Other dining and lounges

Rüya Istanbul is on the current official dining list — Anatolian plates, terrace and weekend evenings.

Rüya Istanbul

Rüya Istanbul is active: modern Anatolian cooking, lunch and dinner, a bar, and weekend DJ hours on hotel copy. It is the published Sunday-brunch room. Elegant casual on the card.

Bellini, Gazebo and the garden rooms

Bellini is the Italian restaurant inside the historic palace. Gazebo is the waterfront lounge — pastries, chocolates, all-day plates and afternoon tea in a redesigned Ottoman-garden room. C Lounge and seasonal Bosphorus Grill sit on the water. Le Fumoir is the garden bar. Hours and seasonal closures change.

Wellness

Sanitas Spa and hammam

Sanitas Spa is the hotel wellness floor: Turkish hammam, steam, sauna, indoor pool, whirlpool, gym and treatment rooms. A historic hammam volume also survives from the 1910 fire and is used as a distinctive palace space. Book treatments through the hotel or Sanitas. Cab Istanbul does not take spa reservations.

Infinity pool

The outdoor pool is a Bosphorus-facing infinity deck. Official spa copy calls it heated; the press kit writes year-round use, including a heated winter swim. An indoor pool sits with the spa. Opening hours move; the fitness-and-pools card has listed 08:00–20:00. This page does not rank it as the city’s best pool.

Gatherings

Weddings, meetings and events

The palace is a working events house: weddings on Bosphorus terraces, galas and corporate meetings. The 2024 press kit lists 20 meeting rooms. The official Çırağan Ballroom is about 956 m² with a published cocktail ceiling of 956. The Palace Terrace is about 1,693 m² (hotel card: banquet 900, cocktail 2,000). Smaller palace rooms such as Ottoman (76 m²) suit board work. Ask the events team for a live plan. Capacities are hotel-published and layout-dependent.

By water

Yacht and Bosphorus arrival

Kempinski publishes waterfront arrival by yacht and a registered Bosphorus helipad. Those are hotel-operated options, not a Cab Istanbul product. This page does not repeat the marketing line that Çırağan is the only Istanbul hotel reachable by limousine, yacht and helicopter. Confirm pier and air rules with the hotel before you plan a show arrival. A separate Bosphorus cruise is a city outing, not the hotel’s private berth.

Neighbourhood

Çırağan Palace Kempinski location

The door is on Çırağan Caddesi, Yıldız, Beşiktaş — European waterfront between the Beşiktaş ferry and shopping streets and Ortaköy. Yıldız Park rises behind the plot. Dolmabahçe Palace is a coastal hop in the other direction. Nişantaşı, Taksim and Galataport are booked city legs, not a stroll from the lobby. Distances below are orientation. Istanbul travel time varies with traffic, day and hour.

Place How to read it
Ortaköy Mosque / waterfront Next coastal neighbourhood — evening tables, not a locked five-minute walk
Beşiktaş square / ferry Urban European hub toward the south-west
Yıldız Park Hill gardens immediately behind the palace grounds
Dolmabahçe Palace Another imperial waterfront, planned as a separate stop
Nişantaşı Luxury streets as a booked hop — Nişantaşı attractions

Airports

Çırağan Palace Kempinski airport transfer

Travel times in Istanbul vary considerably according to traffic, day and hour. The hotel card is not a complimentary shuttle. Guests staying at Çırağan Palace Kempinski can independently arrange a private airport transfer with Cab Istanbul.

Airport cars are a separate Cab Istanbul booking — not a Kempinski desk product.

Istanbul Airport (IST)

IST is the European-side passenger airport north of the city. The 2024 hotel press kit publishes about 42 km to the palace. That is a road distance, not a locked hour. Background: Istanbul Airport.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW)

SAW is the Asian-side airport. The same kit publishes about 48 km. The trip always includes a Bosphorus crossing.

Use an Istanbul Airport transfer for IST. A car with driver covers Ortaköy dinners, Dolmabahçe mornings and Nişantaşı as separate legs. A limousine is a vehicle class on your Cab Istanbul booking — not a hotel upgrade and not the Sultan Suite Rolls-Royce (that car is a hotel suite privilege).

If you want a pre-arranged vehicle between IST or SAW and Çırağan Palace Kempinski, book Cab Istanbul separately. The hotel does not operate this service.

By the day

Chauffeur and limousine service

A chauffeured car is useful when the diary leaves the waterfront: IST to Çırağan, a Levent meeting, Nişantaşı with bags, an Ortaköy table, a Historic Peninsula morning, a wedding guest run, or a late SAW departure. Book the legs you need. Cab Istanbul does not claim a palace concierge desk and does not sell hotel spa or Tuğra reservations.
