Antalya Province · Mediterranean · Taurus foothills
Things to visit in Antalya span a compact old-town core, a long urban beach belt, waterfall parks, mountain hikes, southwest coast ruins and winter ski on the Taurus—plus honest day-trip bands east toward Manavgat and west toward Lycia. This English 2026 hub groups attractions by geography and time budget: walkable Kaleiçi and the harbour, city beaches, the Upper Düden / Lower Düden (Karpuzkaldıran) pair, near ruins in ancient cities near Antalya, province waterfalls in waterfalls of Antalya, and seasonal Saklıkent ski. Cab Istanbul is intercity car with driver transport only—not tickets, not guiding.
The Antalya Archaeological Museum has been closed since 16 July 2025 for rebuild and artefact transfer—do not plan a 2026 gallery visit. Saklıkent Ski Center (Antalya) is not Saklıkent Canyon (Fethiye). Yanartaş (Chimera) is related to the Olympos coast but is not inside the Olympos ruins ticket area.

More beaches, caves and minor ruins exist across the province; this hub focuses on high-utility planning anchors rather than a complete gazetteer.
City core
Kaleiçi, harbour and old-town symbols
Antalya Kaleiçi is the walkable historic grid above the Mediterranean—Ottoman timber houses, boutique hotels, harbour restaurants and the city’s soft skyline markers. Enter through Hadrian’s Gate (Üç Kapılar), a triple Roman arch from roughly 130 AD; it is the same monument locals call Üç Kapılar—not a separate “Pamphylia Gate.” Climb lanes toward Yivli Minare, the fluted Seljuk brick minaret that reads as Antalya’s postcard symbol, and loop the southwest walls toward Hıdırlık Tower for cliff views.
The Old Harbor / Yat Limanı is the social heart: fishing boats, tour quays and evening tables on the water. Boat operators sell half-day and full-day trips; routes vary—some emphasise swimming bays, others coastal sightseeing toward the Lara cliffs. Do not assume every tour includes the Düden falls from the sea; read the pier menu before you board.
- Walking rhythm: Gate → Yivli / clock-tower bazaar edge → harbour descent → cliff return via Hıdırlık or Karaalioğlu.
- Café culture: Upper lanes suit morning coffee; harbour suits sunset dinner.
- Mermerli Beach: Small paid pocket beach under the walls—useful in summer; confirm current fee on site.
- Indoor backup: Kıraç and Toy museums near the old town while the main archaeological museum remains closed.
Harbour & sea
Boat tours, quays and coastal access
Antalya’s boat culture concentrates at the Old Harbor, with additional seasonal departures from resort marinas along Konyaaltı and Lara. Typical products include shared gulet-style day sails with swim stops, shorter harbour loops and private charters. Menus differ: some highlight sea caves and Lara cliff photography; others focus on bay swimming east or west of the city. Lower Düden (Karpuzkaldıran) is sometimes marketed on boat routes as a cliff-fall photo point—distinct from visiting Upper Düden inland.
Cab Istanbul does not sell boat tickets or operate vessels. A car with driver can drop you at the pier or combine a harbour morning with an afternoon waterfall or ruin stop—transport logistics only.
Museum status
Antalya Archaeological Museum — closed for rebuild
The Antalya Archaeological Museum—long the headline indoor collection for Pamphylia sculpture, mosaics and regional archaeology—has been closed since 16 July 2025. Artefacts are in transfer and new-museum construction; there is no reliable 2026 gallery reopening date for visitor planning. Treat Perge marbles and major statuary as not on display in Antalya city this season.
Soft indoor alternatives while the main museum is offline include the Suna & İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum (Ottoman house context in the old town) and the Antalya Toy Museum (family-friendly collections). Open-air ruins remain the primary archaeology experience—see distance bands below and the dedicated ancient cities hub.
Urban coast
Konyaaltı, Lara and city beaches
Antalya’s city beaches split west and east. Konyaaltı is the long pebble-and-sand strip backed by the Beydağları views and a tram-linked promenade—popular with residents, students and mid-range hotels. Lara carries large resort compounds, sandy bays and the cliff edge where Lower Düden / Karpuzkaldıran pours into the sea. Both are genuine urban beaches, not “day trips”—but they are different characters: Konyaaltı reads more public-transit friendly; Lara reads more resort-guest oriented.
Adrasan, Olympos / Çıralı and Phaselis beaches belong to southwest-coast days, not the central city strip. Kaputaş near Kaş is a famous photo cove on west-Lycia routes—enjoy as a viewpoint or regulated swim context; this guide does not recommend informal camping on the roadside.
| Beach / coast | Zone | Character | Best for | Practical note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Konyaaltı Beach | West Antalya | Long urban pebble strip | Promenade walks, tram access, locals | Paid lounger sections common in peak season |
| Lara Beach belt | East Antalya | Sandy resort coast | Hotel guests, families, cliff viewpoints | Pair with Lower Düden viewpoints |
| Mermerli Beach | Kaleiçi walls | Small pocket beach | Swim near old town | Paid operation in summer—confirm on site |
| Phaselis coves | Tekirova · SW coast | Pine-shaded harbour beaches | Ruins + swim same ticket day | SW coast drive (~1–1.5 h from centre) |
| Olympos / Çıralı | Valley coast | Bohemian beach strip | Tree-house stays, ruin-to-beach walk | Separate from Yanartaş flame hike |
| Adrasan | Far SW bay | Calm wide bay | Quieter swim day | Longer drive; often its own day |
Ancient cities
Ruins by distance band from Antalya centre
Antalya Province holds one of Türkiye’s densest ruin belts. Plan by drive band, not as one loop. Near Pamphylia–Pisidia sites (Perge, Aspendos, Termessos, Side) fit half- or full-day runs from the city. Southwest harbour cities (Phaselis, Olympos) need a coast day. Myra, Xanthos, Patara and Kekova sit in west Lycia—honest separate day(s), not “quick hops” after breakfast in Kaleiçi.
| Distance band | Examples | Typical drive class | Planning frame |
|---|---|---|---|
| City core | Kaleiçi walls, Hadrian Gate, harbour | Walk / short taxi | Day one orientation |
| Near day-trip | Perge, Aspendos, Termessos, Upper Düden, Kurşunlu, Karain Cave | ~20–55 km / ~30–70 min | Half–full day; max two heavy stops |
| East province | Side, Manavgat Waterfall | ~70–80 km / ~70–90 min | Own east day |
| SW coast day | Phaselis, Olympos, Yanartaş (separate), Adrasan | ~55–90+ km / ~1–1.5 h+ | Heat and swim buffers matter |
| Alanya / far east | Sapadere Canyon | ~180 km / ~3 h class | Alanya base or long car day |
| West Lycia | Myra, Xanthos, Patara, Kekova/Simena | ~140–200+ km | Separate day(s)—not city-centre scope |
Deep monument notes, DOSIM € snapshots and site-specific corrections live in ancient cities near Antalya. Hard reminders for this hub: Perge theatre is closed for restoration; Yanartaş is not inside the Olympos ticket; Alexander cleared Termessos’s pass but did not capture the city (Arrian tradition).
Waterfalls
City falls versus province day trips
Antalya’s waterfall story is often mis-sold as one park. In reality Upper Düden (Kepez inland recreation area) and Lower Düden / Karpuzkaldıran (Lara sea cliffs) are different sites—same river system, different access. Kurşunlu is an east-of-city nature park. Manavgat, Sapadere and Uçansu belong to province days with distinct geography. Full swim rules and fee patterns are in waterfalls of Antalya.
| Waterfall | City vs province | District | Combine with | Key correction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Upper Düden | City / central | Kepez | Lower Düden same day; optional Karain | ≠ Lower Düden— inland park, not Lara cliffs |
| Lower Düden (Karpuzkaldıran) | City / central | Muratpaşa · Lara | Upper Düden; Lara promenade | Same entity as Karpuzkaldıran name |
| Kurşunlu | City fringe | Aksu area | Perge if timing fits | Tabiat Parkı; swimming generally restricted |
| Manavgat | Province · east | Manavgat | Side peninsula | ~70+ km—not downtown |
| Sapadere | Province · Alanya | Sapadere village | Alanya old town if based east | Not Antalya city centre scope |
| Uçansu | Province · Serik | Gebiz / Akçapınar | Aspendos corridor if road allows | Seasonal flow; rough final approach |
Caves & canyons
Karain Cave, Güver and softer canyon mentions
Karain Cave north of the city is among Anatolia’s key Palaeolithic sites—multi-layer excavations with an on-site museum hall. It fits a near day-trip combined with Upper Düden or a north-city loop. Confirm current hours on muze.gov.tr before driving.
Güver Canyon and similar Taurus-side gorges appear in regional marketing as “secret canyon” products—treat as soft nature outings with seasonal access and local operator rules rather than fixed city-centre sights. Sapadere is the best-known paid boardwalk canyon on the Alanya side (see above).
Flames & peaks
Yanartaş, Taurus hiking and mountain outlooks
Yanartaş (Chimera) is a natural methane flame field on the slope above Çıralı— memorable at dusk, reached by a separate trail/visit from the Olympos archaeological valley. Plan it as its own block (often evening) rather than assuming one ticket covers ruins and flames.
The Taurus (Toros) range frames Antalya’s skyline from Konyaaltı and defines hinterland days: Termessos inside Güllük Dağı National Park is the headline mountain ruin hike; lighter outlook walks exist on city-edge parks and cable-car products toward Tahtalı above Kemer (confirm seasonal operation). Winter snow sport concentrates at Saklıkent Ski Center on the Antalya side of the Beydağları—not at the unrelated Fethiye canyon name twin.
Winter contrast
Saklıkent Ski Center — Antalya snow, not Fethiye canyon
Visitors often confuse two famous “Saklıkent” names. Saklıkent Ski Center in Antalya Province is a Mediterranean ski area roughly 50 km from the city—a winter day trip when snow conditions allow (typically December–March class). Saklıkent Canyon near Fethiye in Muğla is a completely different geography: a deep limestone gorge for summer wading, not Antalya ski.
Read lift status, road conditions and rental patterns in the dedicated Saklıkent ski resort guide. The image below shows ski-area lodging/facility context—not the Fethiye canyon.
Food zones
Where to eat — districts, not rankings
Antalya dining maps cleanly to zones rather than a single “best restaurant” list. Kaleiçi and the harbour concentrate tourist-facing meze, fish and terrace tables with atmosphere pricing. Konyaaltı and Lara promenades carry beach-club cafés and chain resorts. Manavgat river restaurants cluster near the waterfall outing. This hub deliberately avoids ranking venues or quoting stale menu prices—choose by neighbourhood and same-day mood.
- Old town: Ottoman-house restaurants, harbour fish, breakfast courtyards.
- City west: Konyaaltı strip cafés and casual dining along the tram line.
- East resorts: Hotel buffets and Lara beach clubs—convenient for resort guests.
- Province days: Manavgat tea gardens; Sapadere canyon cafés; SW coast beach shacks near Phaselis/Olympos.
After dark
Nightlife zones — Kemer vs Antalya centre
Nightlife is geography-sensitive. Central Antalya carries bar streets and clubs in the modern city fabric—often grouped under area labels such as Soho-class zones rather than one venue. Kemer, west toward Phaselis, hosts large open-air club complexes such as Aura and Inferno—a Kemer nightlife belt, not Kaleiçi old town. Family travellers often prefer harbour dinners or resort hotels over late club corridors.
No venue in this guide is presented as “the best club” or “top restaurant”—seasonal menus, cover charges and hours change too quickly for stale rankings.
Families
Family-friendly layers without invented ticket math
Families usually mix walkable old town, tram-friendly Konyaaltı beach time, nature parks (Kurşunlu, Upper Düden picnic zones) and soft indoor stops (Toy Museum, Kıraç). Larger attractions—Antalya Aquarium, Aqualand, zoo and theme-park products—exist on the urban fringe and east resort belts; hours and prices shift seasonally, so confirm on official sites rather than trusting old blog figures.
- Walkable culture: Kaleiçi lanes, harbour boat watching, clock-tower bazaar.
- Shade and water play: Kurşunlu ponds, municipal splash areas in summer.
- Rain plan: Toy Museum, Kıraç—while main archaeology museum is closed.
- Teen energy: Tram to Konyaaltı; evening harbour stroll instead of late clubs if noise-sensitive.
Itineraries
Route ideas by time budget

Indoor & winter snapshot
Museums, ski and rainy-day alternatives
| Attraction | Status / season | Zone | Visitor note |

| Antalya Toy Museum | Open (confirm hours) | Near old town | Family indoor hour |
| Karain Cave museum hall | Seasonal hours | North of city | Palaeolithic context; combine with Düden pair |

Transport & planning
Getting around — trams, dolmuş and chauffeur days
Antalya city core rewards walking; Konyaaltı links by tram; Lara and waterfall parks usually need a taxi, rideshare or rental car. Province days (Side, Phaselis, Termessos, Sapadere, west Lycia) are car-first for time efficiency. Public dolmuş patterns exist on some corridors—this hub does not invent route numbers or timetables.
For multi-stop days with luggage, elders or tight flight connections, intercity car with driver covers road logistics between Istanbul, Antalya Airport (AYT) and regional stops. Drivers are not licensed archaeological guides; tickets, boat seats and ski rentals are not included.

FAQ
Things to visit in Antalya — frequently asked questions
Start with walkable Kaleiçi, Hadrian’s Gate, the Old Harbor and either Konyaaltı or Lara beach time. Add one province day—ruins (Perge/Aspendos), waterfalls (Düden pair or Kurşunlu) or a SW coast run (Phaselis/Olympos)—based on your car access.
No. It has been closed since 16 July 2025 for new-museum construction and artefact transfer. See Antalya Archaeological Museum for status context; plan Kıraç, Toy Museum or open-air ruins instead.
No. They share the Düden river system but are different sites: Upper Düden is an inland Kepez park; Lower Düden (Karpuzkaldıran) is the Lara cliff fall into the sea. You can visit both in one city day. Details: waterfalls of Antalya.
No. Saklıkent Ski Center is Antalya’s Mediterranean ski area. Saklıkent Canyon is a summer gorge near Fethiye in Muğla. Read Saklıkent ski resort for winter planning.
No. Yanartaş (Chimera) is a separate natural flame site above Çıralı. The Olympos örenyeri covers the valley ruins—not the mountain flame field. Plan an evening hike block separately.
Not realistically. Both sit in west Lycia with long drives (~2.5–3.5 h class each way depending on stops). Treat them as dedicated west days or overnight bases—not city-centre attractions.
Sapadere is in the Alanya hinterland, roughly a three-hour drive class from Antalya city. It fits Alanya-based trips or a long east-province day—not an old-town stroll.
No. Boat routes vary by operator—some highlight swim bays, others Lara cliffs or coastal caves. Read the pier menu; do not assume a Düden photo stop on every ticket.
No—they are the same triple arch (~130 AD). Use either name; do not hunt for a second “Pamphylia Gate” nearby.
Konyaaltı suits tram-linked promenade walks and pebble beach culture west of centre. Lara suits resort guests and sandy bays near Lower Düden viewpoints. Both are urban—pick by hotel location and vibe, not a universal “best.”
This guide does not recommend informal roadside camping at Kaputaş. Treat it as a regulated photo/swim cove on west-Lycia drives with normal visitor rules— not a free camping pitch.
Both exist but serve different maps. Central Antalya has bar/club zones in the modern city fabric. Large open-air complexes such as Aura and Inferno sit in the Kemer belt—not inside Kaleiçi old town.
This hub avoids fake rankings. Choose by zone—harbour fish, Kaleiçi terraces, Konyaaltı cafés, Manavgat river restaurants—and confirm menus and prices on the day.
Near band: Perge, Aspendos, Termessos, Side. SW coast: Phaselis, Olympos. Full matrix: ancient cities near Antalya.
No—it is listed closed for restoration. Walk the gate, colonnaded street, baths and stadium; confirm muze.gov.tr before expecting cavea access.
Try Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum and the Toy Museum near the old town, plus Karain Cave’s hall on a north-city day. Major Pamphylia sculpture galleries remain offline until the archaeological museum reopens.
Termessos is a steep mountain hike inside Güllük Dağı National Park—plan 3–5 hours on uneven paths. It is poor fit for strollers or serious mobility limits; choose Perge or Phaselis instead.
No—that packs city, east-province and Alanya geographies into an unrealistic drive day. Pair Upper + Lower Düden locally, or assign Manavgat/Sapadere to separate east days.
No. Cab Istanbul provides intercity chauffeur transport only— not licensed guiding, not museum/boat/ski tickets, and not a packaged archaeology tour product.
Use Kaleiçi, waterfalls, ancient cities, museum status and Saklıkent ski for focused depth beyond this hub.
Treat Antalya as a province-scale map: walk Kaleiçi and the harbour first, match beaches to your hotel belt, keep Upper and Lower Düden separate, respect the museum closure, band ancient cities and waterfalls by honest drive time, and leave Saklıkent ski and Fethiye canyon names apart—confirm fees the morning you go, and use Cab Istanbul only for the road between stops.
