Harbiye · Şişli · Hotel guide
Divan Istanbul is a five-star city hotel on Asker Ocağı Caddesi No: 1 in Harbiye, Şişli — at the start of the tree-lined boulevard that leads to Taksim Square. It is not on the square itself, not a Sultanahmet address, and not the same property as the former Divan Istanbul City in Gayrettepe.
The guest-facing name is Divan Istanbul (Divan İstanbul). Booking engines and locals still say Divan Taksim. The hotel is the Koç Group’s flagship stay in Istanbul, opened in 1956 and rebuilt around 2010. This page is a traveller briefing: rooms and suites, which restaurants are named now, the spa and indoor pool, meetings, nearby Harbiye stops, and how airport transfers actually work. Cab Istanbul is an independent chauffeur and transfer company. It does not operate the hotel and has no verified partnership or transfer discount with it.

Since 1956
A Koç hotel that was rebuilt, not just refreshed
Divan Istanbul is one of Istanbul’s older five-star names, not a new glass tower on the square. Vehbi Koç opened the hotel after a public naming contest chose “Divan.” The first building stood on Elmadağ land at Asker Ocağı and Cumhuriyet. Wikipedia and architectural notes record a demolition around 2008 and a new hotel around 2010; trade listings still say a complete renovation in 2011. The current interiors and façade are associated with Thierry W. Despont; the new architectural project is credited to Akan Mimarlık.
That history matters for booking. Guests who remember the mid-century original are not walking into the same shell. The name, the address and the pastry counter are the through-line. Room sizes, the spa block and the restaurant names belong to the rebuilt hotel. Confirm the category you booked — park, city or, in the presidential suite, a Bosphorus terrace — instead of assuming every window faces the water.
Location
Harbiye, not the middle of Taksim Square
Official copy places the hotel at the beginning of the boulevard that leads to Taksim Square. That is accurate and more useful than “Taksim hotel” on its own. From the door you walk toward the square and Istiklal Street; you do not step out onto the square’s paving. The district on the address line is Şişli. The street identity is Harbiye / Elmadağ — congress halls one way, Nişantaşı the other, Dolmabahçe downhill toward the water.
Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus sits in the same Harbiye cluster. If you are comparing two classic five-stars on this ridge, read the Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus page separately. They are neighbours, not the same stay, and neither is a Bosphorus-shore hotel like a Tarabya or Beşiktaş waterfront address.
What is actually close
- Taksim Square and Istiklal — a short walk; nightlife and pedestrian streets, not a quiet garden hotel
- Istanbul Congress Center, Lütfi Kırdar and Cemal Reşit Rey — the reason many meeting travellers book here
- Nişantaşı — a short ride for shopping; see Nişantaşı
- Dolmabahçe Palace — downhill toward the Bosphorus; see Dolmabahçe Palace
- Galataport — a dedicated ride, not a stroll with suitcases; see Galataport
Stay
Rooms and suites at Divan Istanbul
Official room pages list five useful categories. Sizes below are the hotel’s published figures, not a live inventory. Rates change by date and availability — check the hotel or your booking channel; this page does not quote room prices.
Superior and Deluxe
Superior rooms are listed at 32 m², with park or city outlook and a king or twin setup. They are the practical base for a congress week or a short leisure stay. Deluxe rooms are listed at 36 m², with a sitting area and a bath-plus-shower bathroom. Both categories advertise a work desk, free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee, a minibar and a pillow menu. A park view is not a Bosphorus view.
One-bedroom suite and family room
The one-bedroom suite is listed at 54 m² with a living area — useful when you want to take a call without sitting on the bed. The family room is also listed at 54 m² but splits into two bedrooms: one double and two singles. That is the category to request if two rooms on one key matter more than a larger sitting room. Official pages mention extra beds and cots as services, not as a guaranteed layout in every room.
Presidential Suite
The Presidential Suite (Kral Dairesi) is the outlier: official figures give 182 m² or 173 m², two bedrooms, a living room, a service kitchen and a terrace. Park, city and sea outlooks are all listed. A jacuzzi appears on the amenity list. Treat this as a hosted apartment, not a slightly larger Deluxe. Availability is limited; do not plan a proposal dinner on the terrace until the hotel confirms the date.
Dining
Restaurants, bar and patisserie
The hotel’s own description names three gourmet rooms plus the lobby bar and pastry counter. Hours below are the current official figures. Kitchens close on some days — especially Sunday — so do not assume 24-hour dining downstairs.
Lokanta by Divan
Lokanta by Divan is the modern Turkish restaurant on Asker Ocağı Caddesi. Official service hours are lunch 12:00–15:00 and dinner 18:00–23:00. It is closed on Sundays. The current menu is a hotel PDF, not a street-food stall: grilled fish and meats, pasta and a dessert list that changes. Do not use last year’s prices. Book a table if you are staying through a congress evening; walk-in space is not guaranteed.
Maromi
Maromi is the Japanese restaurant. Official hours: weekday lunch 12:00–15:00; no Saturday or Sunday lunch; dinner on weekdays and Saturday 18:30–22:30; closed Sundays. Reservations go through the hotel restaurant line. If sushi is the reason you chose this stay, check Sunday and Saturday lunch before you lock the itinerary.
Divan Pub, Divan Bar and the patisserie
Divan Pub is the all-day room for guests who want a simpler plate without a tasting-menu evening. Divan Bar and Divan Patisserie sit on the lobby floor. The pastry brand is older than the rebuilt hotel and is used by locals as well as in-house guests. That is useful context, not a reason to skip dinner elsewhere on Istiklal.
Wellness
Divan Istanbul spa, hammam and indoor pool
Official hotel copy puts the spa and fitness area at about 1,800 m², open daily 07:00–22:00. The listed kit is a Turkish bath, sauna, steam room, jet pool, a semi-Olympic indoor swimming pool, a pilates studio, and facial, body and massage treatments. That is a full city-hotel wellness floor, not a single treatment room off the gym.
Massage menus change. This page does not invent Thai, Swedish or hot-stone packages from older marketing. Ask the spa desk — spa.divanistanbul@divan.com.tr or +90 212 315 56 80 on the official page — for current treatments and whether the hammam is private or shared on your date. The indoor pool is the winter-proof option; there is no advertised outdoor beach club on this plot.
Work
Meetings, congress week and business stays
Divan Istanbul lists six meeting rooms between 48 m² and 345 m², with foyer space, Wi-Fi and in-house AV. That covers board sessions, dinners, iftar evenings and product launches. It is not a substitute for Istanbul Congress Center or Lütfi Kırdar when you need a thousand-seat hall. The useful fact is the walk or short ride to those venues from Harbiye.
Business travellers typically want a desk in the room, early breakfast and a car that does not vanish into Taksim taxi queues. A car with driver from Cab Istanbul can cover a congress day, a Nişantaşı dinner and the airport run as three booked legs — still an independent service, not a hotel chauffeur desk.
Around the hotel
What to do from Divan Istanbul
| Place | Why people go | How it usually works |
|---|---|---|
| Taksim Square | Orientation, metro, evening streets | Walk along the boulevard |
| Istiklal Street | Shops, galleries, late food | Walk from the square; crowded at night |
| Congress cluster | ICC, Lütfi Kırdar, Cemal Reşit Rey | Walk or a very short ride |
| Nişantaşı | Fashion streets, cafés | Short chauffeured hop |
| Dolmabahçe Palace | Ottoman waterfront palace | Ride downhill; timed tickets |
| Galataport | Cruise pier, museums, waterfront shops | Dedicated car; not a suitcase walk |
| Sultanahmet | Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar | A real city ride — not “moments away” |
Old City icons are a half-day plan from Harbiye, not a morning stroll. For airport-side Old City routing see IST to Sultanahmet. A private Istanbul tour can start at the hotel lobby; the driver is not a licensed guide unless you book that product.

Other Divan hotels in Istanbul
As of this research, Divan Istanbul on Asker Ocağı Caddesi is the group’s only hotel stay in Istanbul. The official Divan hotel index lists this property for the city and keeps Bodrum, Ankara, Adana and the other houses outside Istanbul. This section is a disambiguation note, not a ranking of three sister hotels.
Divan Istanbul City — closed, no longer Divan
The Gayrettepe / Mecidiyeköy building on Büyükdere Caddesi No: 84 was Divan Istanbul City, a separate four-star business hotel with about 144 rooms. Trade press reported the Divan operation closed in early 2026. The same building is being prepared as Occidental Istanbul City under Barceló. Booking pages that still say “Divan City” are stale. Do not treat City as a current Divan room block.
Divan Istanbul Asia and Divan Suites Gplus
Divan Istanbul Asia in Pendik is not on the current official hotel list; earlier coverage treated it as closed. Divan Suites Istanbul Gplus in Bağcılar now operates as The G Hotels Istanbul — same plot, different brand. Neither is a Divan check-in. Divan restaurants and patisseries still appear around the city; those are dining addresses, not hotels.
Airports
Divan Istanbul airport transfer
Checked official pages used for this brief do not advertise a complimentary IST or SAW shuttle. Plan a taxi, a public combination, or a private transfer. Journey time depends on the hour and on the bridges and tunnels — do not lock a meeting to a fixed “35 minutes.”
Istanbul Airport (IST)
IST sits on the European side, north of the city. The useful road into Harbiye is the motorway toward Taksim / Şişli, then city streets onto Asker Ocağı Caddesi. Off-peak runs can feel short; Friday evenings and rain stretch the same distance. Background routing for this neighbourhood: Istanbul Airport to Taksim and Istanbul Airport.
Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW)
SAW is the Asian-side airport. The useful fact is the Bosphorus crossing — bridge or tunnel — before you even reach Harbiye. Build more buffer than an IST run of similar map distance. See Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
Guests staying at Divan Istanbul can arrange a private airport transfer through Cab Istanbul — an Istanbul Airport transfer or a Sabiha Gökçen transfer — with collection at Asker Ocağı Caddesi No: 1 on the way back. Vehicle class is your booking, including VIP transfer, not a hotel upgrade. A car with driver covers congress days and Old City hops. There is no current hotel transfer discount on this page.
If you want a pre-arranged vehicle between the airport, Divan Istanbul and other districts, book Cab Istanbul separately. The hotel does not operate this service.
